The CLK 200 KOMPRESSOR, CLK 280, CLK 220 CDI and CLK 320 CDI are fitted with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard. The short shift travel and the optimum synchronisation of the transmission ratios and engine output provide the ideal basis for sporty yet economical performance.
With DIRECT CONTROL the transmission and suspension respond even more directly and more precisely. The result is agile handling and a dynamic driving sensation. Also fitted as standard: cruise control with the SPEEDTRONIC variable speed limiter.
The 5-speed automatic transmission with Touchshift is available as an option for the CLK 200 KOMPRESSOR and the CLK 220 CDI. This transmission promises extra-smooth gear changes for even greater comfort.
In the CLK 350, CLK 500 and CLK 63 AMG models, the standard-fit 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission changes gear for you (optionally available for CLK 280 and CLK 320 CDI, not available for CLK 200 KOMPRESSOR or CLK 220 CDI). Thanks to the smaller rev speed ranges, an optimum ratio can be maintained at all times. This has the effect of reducing fuel consumption and optimising acceleration with smoother transitions between the gears. When shifting down through the gears, 7G-TRONIC's direct multiple downshift principle allows it to skip individual gears, making for faster gear changes.
For even sportier progress, you can also operate the 7G-TRONIC transmission with steering-wheel shift paddles which are included as part of the sports package on automatic models. The two side-mounted paddles behind the wheel permit rapid upshifts and downshifts for even more driving pleasure. As another special feature, keeping the downshift paddle pressed in automatically engages the best gear for rapid acceleration.
