Equipped with third-generation common-rail direct injection, the S 320 CDI sets new standards in diesel technology. The maximum torque of 540 Nm is available from a mere 1600 rpm, producing torque characteristics which are unsurpassed in this displacement class. And the output is an impressive 173 kW (235 hp).
Six cylinders and a balancer shaft ensure exceptionally smooth, quiet operation. The design is also consistently lightweight – a fact that is clearly reflected in the consumption, which averages 8.3–8.6 litres per 100 km (combined). The standard diesel particulate filter ensures further significant reductions in emissions.
The S 320 CDI is also available with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system for outstanding adhesion to the road.
(S 320 CDI: fuel consumption combined: 8.3–8.6 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 220–228 g/km)[1]
The third generation of common-rail diesel engines is more agile and more powerful than ever before. The S 420 CDI, the premium S-Class diesel, delivers superb performance. Developing a maximum torque of 730 Nm, the V8-cylinder diesel engine is one of the most powerful in its size category. The S 420 CDI (235 kW and 320 hp) achieves this rating at just 2200 rpm.
(S 420 CDI: fuel consumption combined: 9.4–9.6 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 247–252 g/km)[1]
