With the M-Class you don’t depend upon a road to get there. Simply press the standard off-road switch, and all of the electronic systems on board are primed for off-road driving and extra traction. If one of the wheels loses grip, the ESP®/4ETS system divides the power amongst the other wheels. Permanent 4MATIC all-wheel drive has additional functions that have proven their worth when travelling cross-country. Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR) keeps the speed under control when driving down steep hills, while hill start assist makes starting on a steep hill as easy as driving on a straight road. If you are looking to explore even more extreme terrain, we recommend the Off-Road Pro engineering package, which is available as an option. Among other things it makes it possible to raise the vehicle level by as much as 90 mm, thus increasing the fording depth to 600 mm. In addition a two-level transfer case with a low-range ratio is included. Even gradients of up to 100 percent are negotiable.
(Off-Road Pro engineering package not available for ML 63 AMG.)
