The R 280 and the R 350[1] show how you can cause quite a stir with understatement. These V6 engines with four valves per cylinder and continuously variable camshaft adjustment provide spontaneous power delivery at an output of 170 kW (231 hp) for the R 280 and 200 kW (272 hp) for the R 350[1]. The petrol engine also allows for relaxed cruising in the upper gears – and the consumption figures are impressively low.
(R 280: fuel consumption combined: 10.9–11.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 260–265 g/km; R 350: fuel consumption combined: 11.1–11.3 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 265–270 g/km)[2]
Effortless superiority in any driving situation is the defining characteristic of the new 8-cylinder engine in the R 500 4MATIC. The figures tell their own story: 285 kW (388 hp) and a maximum torque of 530 Nm. The R 500 4MATIC can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 6.1 seconds. Variable intake and exhaust camshafts, as well as extensive use of lightweight materials such as magnesium, ensure a low weight for this vehicle class and in turn excellent fuel economy. And just to make sure that all this power is delivered as comfortably as possible, the standard 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission does the gearshifting for you.
(R 500 4MATIC: fuel consumption combined: 12.9–13.1 l/100 km, CO2 emissions combined: 306–311 g/km)[2]
