The optional 4MATIC[1] permanent all-wheel drive, advanced axle design, a long wheelbase and many dynamic handling control functions deliver a ride that is comfortable in the extreme.
Front wheel location is by a double-wishbone axle for improved ride comfort and handling dynamics, while the rear wheels are located by a sophisticated four-link axle. The 5-seater and 4+2-seater feature an all-steel suspension, while the 5+2-seater and R 500 4MATIC have a rear air suspension with level control as standard. On request all models (except the 4+2-seater) are available with the AIRMATIC package, which has all-round air suspension for even greater ride comfort. The system, in conjunction with the adaptive damping system ADS, ensures a constant comfort level even with a loaded vehicle. From a speed of 120 km/h the body automatically lowers, which reduces wind resistance and in turn fuel consumption. You can also raise the body by up to 50 mm with the touch of a button, for example, in order to better negotiate uneven road surfaces. The optional all-wheel system 4MATIC can also help you in this regard.
[1] Standard for R 320 CDI 4MATIC and R 500 4MATIC models, optional extra for the R 280 CDI and R 350 models.
