The A-Class petrol engines are anything but ordinary. And they certainly deserve the good grades they get. Our engineers have gone all out to ensure that these engines really perform. You have the choice of the A 150 with 70 kW (95 hp), the A 170 with 85 kW (116 hp), the A 200 with 100 kW (136 hp) and the A 200 Turbo with 142 kW (193 hp). Even the entry-level model delivers a superb maximum torque of 140 Nm at 3500 to 4000 rpm. The A 200 achieves 185 Nm at 3500 to 4000 rpm, while the A 200 TURBO leads the list with 280 Nm at 1800 to 4850 rpm.
A plus for the environment and your wallet comes courtesy of the ECO start/stop function which will be available in the A 150 BlueEFFICIENCY and A 170 BlueEFFICIENCY with manual transmission from September 2008: at traffic lights and in stop-and-go traffic, this function reduces fuel consumption and prevents emissions by automatically switching off the engine – and it starts it up again in fractions of a second, as soon as you engage a gear.
