The engine is undisputedly the heart of every motor vehicle. So it is only natural that Mercedes-Benz engineers should invest a great deal of energy in continuously developing it. This is reflected in the countless innovative features in our latest generation of engines which also benefit from the extensive know-how acquired through our long-standing commitment to motorsport.
The latest V6 petrol engine for instance, manages to produce a higher output and pulling power while at the same time sinking consumption and emissions. The strong 6-cylinder diesel engine features extremely low pollutant emissions, even without a particulate filter. And even with its standard particulate filter the V8 variant of the exceptionally rorquey diesel engine lies below the EU4 limit. The V8 AMG petrol engine power pack clearly shows its racing sport roots. The principle applied in its manufacture is: "one man, one engine", meaning that each of these naturally-aspirated engines is assembled by one technician only.
