Acting as curator, the architecture firm hg merz created and implemented the display concept. It was designed around the comprehensive vehicle collection and is divided into Legend and Collections areas and sections on racing vehicles and the fascination of technology.
The challenge facing a museum, according to hg merz, is to both house and display exhibits. This is illustrated by the division into Legend and Collections rooms. The Legend rooms present outstanding individual vehicles taken from the 120-year production history of Mercedes‑Benz. The Collections are "viewing depots", in which different commercial vehicles and passenger cars are aligned according to core automotive themes. Exhibits are exchanged on a regular basis in these rooms.
