In the fog, on dark country roads, at night on the motorway or when cornering – optimum visibility is always essential, but every single driving situation and set of weather conditions would seem to require its own special headlamps. Or the Intelligent Light System from Mercedes-Benz. Available for the first time in the new-generation E-Class, the adaptive headlamp system automatically adjusts itself to the requirements of the current driving situation and thus ensures optimum illumination. The system comprises a motorway mode, a country road mode, cornering light and active light functions as well as enhanced fog lamps.
The enhanced fog lamp function provides good visibility in murky weather and reduces backglare at the same time. The active light function and the integrated cornering light function follow the movements of the steering wheel and can improve illumination by up to 90 percent when turning into side roads or taking tight corners. Country road mode improves visibility in extra-urban areas by a good 10 metres while motorwaymode is activated at higher speeds and increases visibility by a massive 50 metres.
But regardless of which particular function of the Intelligent Light System happens to be in use at a given moment – you do not have to do anything. You will probably simply notice that you can see better.
