The largely unknown Mercedes cars with rear-mounted engines were examples of technical innovation in the 1930s but were not particularly successful in terms of sales. The series also failed to become revitalised by success at the most popular motorsport event at the time, the "2000 kilometres through Germany" race or by the introduction of an appealingly styled 55 hp sports roadster. Only five of these sports roadsters (W 30), which cost 6600 reichsmarks, were built.
