Models K to SSKL – a new generation of victorious supercharged cars
In 1927, Daimler-Benz competed in more than 90 races and other motorsport events. The models K (K = short chassis) and S (S = sport) were the first to cross the finish line – whether in hill-climb events, motor rallies or circuit races. A double victory at the opening race at the Nürburgring is recognised to this day as an outstanding triumph: Rudolf Caracciola won the race ahead of Adolf Rosenberger on 19 June 1927. Both pilots drove a 1.9-tonne Mercedes-Benz model S with a mighty 6.8-litre engine. With activated supercharger, the six-cylinder unit developed 180 hp at 3300 rpm.
