Models K to SSKL – a new generation of victorious supercharged cars
The tireless search for perfection by engineers and designers produced the model SS (the second S stands for "super"), which replaced the Mercedes-Benz S in 1928. The primary difference from the predecessor model was an enhanced, more powerful engine. The racing versions generated up to 250 hp. The Mercedes-Benz works team achieved a much-admired triple victory at the German Grand Prix at the Nürburgring. Rudolf Caracciola secured first place ahead of Otto Merz and Christian Werner.
