In 1994, the new Mercedes C-Class entered the motorsport arena. In its first season, its 2.5-litre, six-cylinder engine developed over 400 hp. Klaus Ludwig and Jörg van Ommen clinched first and second places in the DTM Championship and Mercedes‑Benz finished on top in the manufacturers’ rankings. In 1995, the new ITC (International Touring Car Championship) was staged parallel to the DTM. Both series were won comfortably by AMG driver Bernd Schneider, in a Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Mercedes‑Benz also clinched the manufacturers’ titles in both series.
